International Children’s Day is a very appropriate holiday for Mongolia in that a very high percentage of their population, over a third, are under the age of 18. Every year on 1 June, exciting events for children are organised on Sukhbaatar Square in the centre of Ulaanbaatar.
After a two-year hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic, Mongolia will publicly celebrate International Children’s Day on 1 June, 2022.
All cultural and sports events in Mongolia have been cancelled by cabinet decision after Covid-19 pandemic started globally in 2019 .
With a high vaccination coverage and declining daily infections, Mongolia returned to normal life on 15 January, 2022. It has resumed in-person classes for all educational institutions and fully opened its borders to foreign tourists.
International Children’s Day was established in 1949 by the Women’s International Democratic Federation to safeguard the rights and interests of children. Currently, many countries celebrate the day every First of June.
In 1996, Mongolia officially designated the day as an official public holiday.
