Danshig Religious Festival to be held without audiences

A festival of Mongolian culture, including the famous mask dances, ‘Danshig Naadam – Khuree Tsam’, has become one of the highlights on the tourist calendar. Revived in 2015, the August event was first visited by 1000 foreign visitors; this increased to 3000 in 2017.

However, this year, due to coronavirus restrictions, the Danshig Festival will be held without audiences at the Battsagaan Monastery. Therefore, the so-called “three manly games”; namely, wrestling, archery and horse racing have been cancelled for this year.

According to the Gandantegchinlen (aka Gandan) Monastery, prior to the festival, the Gandan monks will pray for three days from 26-28 June; the Khuree Tsam, mask dance will take place on 29 June.
