Snow disrupts PM visit

Bad weather on Tuesday (21st of March) forced an Aero Mongolia flight with Mongolian Prime Minister J.Erdenebat on board to Bayan-Ulgii to be delayed. This province in the far west of Mongolia, is famous for its ethnic Kazakh-majority province, the eagle hunters and the highest mountains in the country. The PM had been planning to participate in the Kazakh spring festival of Nauryz. However, flights have been delayed following first snow fall in the westernmost province of Mongolia since January

Mongolia to ban coal burning

While most of the year Ulaanbaatar’s skies are clear, between November and March, visibility beyond a few blocks is nearly impossible in many parts of the city. Coal burning by the 175,000 households in the ger districts, for cooking and heating, contributes to the severity of air pollution in wintertime – summer air pollution is much lower. Ulaanbaatar’s “harmful dust” is 6-7 times higher than the most lenient World Health Organization standards.

Mongolia government building engulfed in fire

A fire broke out at the state government headquarters in central Ulaanbaatar on Monday (20th of March), forcing the evacuation of more than 200 officials as it engulfed the second floor of the building.
