Mongolian ‘War Horses’ monument in Moscow

During WWII, the Mongolian People’s Republic supplied the Soviet Union with horses. During the years of war, the people of Mongolia sent more than 500,000 horses. By 1943, one in five frontline horses was Mongolian. It was, therefore fitting, that when he was invited by President Putin to represent Mongolia at the 70th anniversary of Victory Day, President Ts.Elbegdorj, gave Russia a special gift – a statue of the Mongolian "War Horses".

The bronze equestrian monument is the work of the renowned Mongolian artist A.Ochirbold and is entitled “On the Roads of War”.

There has been a question as to where the monument will be placed, during which time, the bronze statue has been in the courtyard of the Embassy of Mongolia on Moscow's Borisoglebskiy Street.

A fitting site has been selected on Moscow's Poklonnaya Gora (hill), which is Russia's most important memorial park, commemorating the millions of soldiers and civilians of the Soviet Union and its allies, including Mongolia, who lost their lives in the worst conflict of the 20th Century. The ceremony laying the foundation for the Mongolian "War Horses" monument on  Poklonnaya Hill is one of the many events organised next week to mark the 72nd anniversary of the Victory Day.
