Former electrician wins Mongolia’s Got Talent

Viral sensation O.Enkh-Erdene was crowned yesterday (11th of December) as the champion of this year's season of Mongolia's Got Talent. O.Enkh-Erdene is internationally recognised for his cover of George Strait's "Amarillo by Morning" displaying southern-sounding vocals highly reminiscent of Josh Turner. He also performed a striking version of Elvis Presley's "Don't Be Cruel." His performance was complete with a set of boogying backup-dancers matched with the contestant's array of Elvis' signature dance moves atop a raised platform. Tackling an Elvis cover is intimidating enough, but when adding a language barrier, the level of difficulty soars – but 'Mongolian Elvis' sang it with ease. Before auditioning for the show, the aspiring country singer was employed as an electrician.

Mongol TV’s reality television series "Mongolia’s Got Talent 2016", part of the global "Got Talent" franchise, begun its second season in September. The show has been shown every Sunday on Mongol HD television for the last 100 days. This year, many talented  contestants have got attention. For example,  graphic designer and dancer B.Shijirbat’s electronic performance has been viewed on Youtube over 100 million times. B.Shijirbat and dancer E.Uugan-Erdene and ‘winner’ O.Enkh-Erdene were finalists.

More than 2000 contestants from the every corner of Mongolia registered for the this year's "Mongolia’s Got Talent". Open auditions took place in Dornod and Khovd Provinces as well as Darkhan-Uul and Ulaanbaatar from January to April.

This series sees the first use of the golden buzzer. During the auditions, as well as the standard buzzers, there was a golden buzzer placed on the centre of the judges' desk. Each judge is allowed to press this buzzer only once, sending the contestant straight through to the live semi-finals regardless of the opinions of the other three. The two anchormen also have been given the opportunity to press the golden buzzer.

Mongolia is the 68th country, to broadcast the Got Talent show.
