J.Ganbat, head of the Budget Policy Department of the Finance Ministry has announced that the salaries of senior government officials are to be reduced by 30%. This group includes the President, the Prime Minister, and MP's. Public administration officials, such as the governors of provinces will see their salaries cut by 20%. In addition, these senior officials will now be banned from buying furniture with public funds and will face reductions in their phone and fuel budgets.

As a result of salary cuts, civil service spending is expected to recoup MNT3 billion this year and MNT8 billion next year.
