Tchaikovsky’s famous ballet the “Nutcracker” will be opening in Ulaanbaatar later this month. This is a new version of the ballet, which has not been performed in Mongolian since 1981, is being choreographed by the Honorary Artist D.Altankhuyag. Last year, the updated choreography, consisted of 180 children was performed. On this occasion, the “Mongolian Ballet Development Foundation” and the City Administration are staging a performance with 220 children. The choreography each year has its own special characteristics. Last year, there was a dancing bear and snow was falling on the stage; this year the new role of the lamb has been added and the Christmas tree has been specially designed for the stage.
Approximately, 300 children were cast this year, of which 22 will be playing roles and the remainder will dance in the public scene. A five-year old girl has been selected to play the role of Clara.
The “Nutcracker” will run until 27th of December.
