On Wednesday, the Standing Committee on Security and Foreign Policy discussed establishing diplomatic relations with the Kingdom of Bhutan. Members approved further discussion of the issue in Parliament.
Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister G.Zandanshatar told the committee that Mongolia supported Bhutan’s admission to the United Nations in 1971. He said Mongolia first asked Bhutan to establish relations in 1975, and Bhutan formally agreed to the request on November 9, 2011.
The minister said Bhutan has diplomatic relations with just 26 nations, most of which are kingdom states. He said Bhutan, a landlocked country in South Asia, has a small population and approaches foreign relations with great care.
