The latest health survey figures show that the mortality rate among
under-5 children in the dzud-hit areas has increased by 35-40 percent.

The nationwide rate of mortality in 1,000 live births in the first
quarter of 2010 was 28.7, compared to 23.4 of 2009. The mortality rate in dzud
hit provinces was 39.7.
