After a long discussion Parliament on Thursday, April 22, 2010 agreed to discuss in more detail a draft seeking to take away from the police the responsibility of looking after drunken people and to hand over running of the night shelters to the Ministry for Health. According to the head of the General Police Authority, D.Sandag-Ochir, about 300 people are daily brought to the shelters. The draft wants hospitals to take care of them, as is done in other countries. If the doctors think it is called for, police help will be sought.
D.Oyunkhorol opposed the move saying hospitals are already overburdened. .Minister for Health S.Lambaa said this provision was not in the draft when it was discussed by the Government and “has now appeared out of nowhere”. He has sent a note to Minister
Ts.Nyamdorj that hospitals will not be able to take the responsibility.
