The 9th Asian Winter Games will take place from February 7 to 14 in Harbin, China. A ceremony to honor and send off the Mongolian national team athletes competing in the event was held at the Mongolian National Olympic Committee.
Attending the event were Battushig Batbold, a member of the International Olympic Committee and President of the Mongolian National Olympic Committee; B. Javkhlan, Minister of Finance, President of the Mongolian Hockey Federation, and leader of the Mongolian team at the 9th Asian Winter Games; Ch. Nomin, Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism; and O. Battulga, Chairman of the Mongolian Sports and Youth Association, along with other officials and team athletes. The official opening ceremony will be held on February 7 in Harbin, which is hosting the Asian Winter Games for the second time in 29 years.
The Winter Games will feature 11 events across 6 sports: biathlon, cross-country skiing, curling, alpine skiing, figure skating, snowboarding, hockey, speed skating, short track, freestyle skiing, and ski mountaineering, with 1,275 athletes from 34 countries competing. The Mongolian national team will participate with 35 athletes in 7 events across 4 sports.
During the ceremony, Batbold Battushig, President of National Olympic Committee of Mongolia wished the athletes success and stated: “The Mongolian athletes are fully prepared to compete in 7 events across 4 sports: speed skating, short track, alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, curling, biathlon, and figure skating. A highlight of this event is that Mongolian athletes will compete in curling for the first time. I urge you all to raise the name of your country high and to demonstrate your hard work and dedication.
