The Hatsu Basho, the first Grand Sumo Tournament of 2025, is currently underway at Tokyo’s Ryogoku Kokugikan, running from January 12 to 26. Interesting matches took place on the fourth day of Basho, yesterday/2025.01.15/.
Yokozuna Terunofuji G.Gan-Erdene began the tournament but withdrew on Day 5 due to injury concerns after recording two losses in the initial four days. He lost to Tobizaru yesterday, leaving him with two wins and two draws.
Ozeki Hoshoryu S.Byambasuren is competing with aspirations for promotion to Yokozuna. As of Day 4, he has secured three wins and one loss, demonstrating strong performance. He defeated Takanosho yesterday. If he wins this basho, he should be awarded the yokozuna title.
Formerly an Ozeki, Kirishima B.Lkhagvasuren is aiming to reclaim his rank after being relegated due to injury. He has shown resilience with two wins and two losses up to Day 4. He defeated ozeki Kotozakura, who is seeking the yokozuna title, yesterday.
Chiyoshoma G.Mukhsaikhan and Tamavashi B.Munkh-Orgil are also undefeated. As for other Mongolian wrestlers, Oshoma P.Delgerbayar defeated Mitakeumi, and Onokatsu B.Choijilsuren defeated Midorifuji. However, Tamashoho E. Enkhmanlai lost.
