The sixteenth session of the Conference of the Parties (COP16) of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) will take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from 2 to 13 December 2024. UNCCD COP 16 is more than a critical milestone – it represents a moonshot moment to raise global ambition and accelerate action on land and drought resilience through a people-centered approach.
Mongolian Prime minister L.Oyun-Erdene will participate this conference as the next host country. During the conference, he will express the position of the Government of Mongolia on desertification, climate change, and land degradation, and introduce the policies and activities being implemented at the national level. Also he will meet UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification Ibrahim Tio, Administrator of the United Nations Development Programm Akim Steiner exchange views with them on issues of relations and cooperation.
The 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) will take place in Mongolia in 2026.
COP16 is poised to be a game-changer, marking a renewed global commitment to accelerate investment and action to restore land and boost drought resilience for the benefit of people and planet.
