Maidar buddhist ceremony will be held in the Gandantegchinlen Monastery

Maidar buddhist ceremony takes place every autumn in the Gandantegchinlen Monastery, the Buddhist center of Mongolia. According to this tradition, Maidar ceremony will be held tomorrow /2024.10.10/. Therefore, the Gandantegchinlen Monastery called on the devotees to gather.

Maidar is an ancient Indian Sanskrit word for “madri” which means to care for and to love. It means not only to love yourself, but to take care of others more than yourself, to help those who are suffering.

The Maidar tradition has been celebrated in Mongolia for centuries, blending with the country’s nomadic lifestyle and Shamanistic influences. It was revived after the fall of communism in Mongolia, which had suppressed religious practices for much of the 20th century. The ceremony showcases Mongolia’s rich Buddhist culture and its enduring belief in the coming of Maitreya, who is seen as a bringer of hope for humanity’s future.
