A strong cold wave is expected to continue to strike Mongolia in the coming days.

Overnight temperatures in the Zuungovi soum, an administrative subdivision of the western Mongolian province of Uvs, dropped to minus 49.4 degrees Celsius from Monday, the National Agency for Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the overnight temperature in the rest of the country was below minus 23.5 degrees Celsius on Monday night, it said.

The agency urged the public, especially nomadic herders and drivers, to take extra precautions against freezing weather.
