The State Specialized Inspecting Agency (SSIA) is banning unlicensed street vendors beginning Tuesday. Police are handing vendors over to the SSIA and confiscating their goods.

The police say permission to sell nuts, cigarettes, fruits, vegetables, and other small items on the street is granted by khoroo and district administrators and a license costs MNT 10,000.

But vendors dispute that figure. Including fees for garbage pickup and cleaning, they say the cost of a license can run as high as MNT 200,000.
