Suu JSC has led the ‘Gender & Economic Inclusion’ category for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Sustainability Award, becoming the recipient of the GOLD Award. Of a total of 79 projects from all over the world that were selected for the category, the Mongolian dairy company received the highest evaluation. The award was presented to the executives of Suu JSC during the EBRD’s 2022 Annual Meeting and Business Forum, which took place in Marrakech, Morocco between May 10-12.
As Mongolia’s leading milk and dairy producer, Suu JSC pays special attention to ensuring equal opportunities for herders and farmers who supply the company with milk, alongside its employees. In the years of 2019 and 2021, the dairy company increased its production capacity with financing through the risk sharing facility provided by EBRD and XacBank.
Furthermore, the company successfully implemented a project on ensuring gender equality in the workplace and supply chain, with financing from EBRD and support from PwC Advisory.
In the framework of the project, the company carried out various measures and activities aimed at ensuring gender equality, including the implementation of a program on cooperatives for farmers and herders from 2020 with joint financing. The program’s implementation has had a significant effect on the labor conditions of female herders, and accessibility of socio-economic opportunities, which served as the main basis for the Mongolian dairy company to receive the prestigious award.
It should also be noted that Suu JSC recently became the first dairy company from Mongolia to join the United Nation’s Women Empowerment Principles campaign.
