Mongolia’s westernmost province of Bayan-Ulgii was a Covid-19 free zone until 2 June; however, a person who arrived from Ulaanbaatar was confirmed having coronavirus while in quarantine at home. Now, within two months, the province has 2721 confirmed cases of coronavirus; within the last fortnight there have been over 300 cases.
Today (4 August), Bayan-Ulgii has confirmed 323 confirmed cases of Covid-19; the highest among the 21 Mongolian provinces. Bayan-Ulgii is Mongolia’s only muslim and Kazakh-majority province.
Today (4 August), Mongolia reported 1444 confirmed cases of coronavirus; 467 in Ulaanbaatar and 977 in the provinces.
Separately, six people died of coronavirus in the last 24 hours; bringing the total death toll to 833.
