Today (23 April), Mongolia confirmed 1264 new cases of coronavirus, bringing the total tally to 27956.
Furthermore, eight people aged between 56 and 94 have died of Covid-19. So far, the death toll to the virus has reached 69 in the country of 3.3 million.
As another wave of COVID-19 spreads in various countries around the world, Mongolia is being particularly hard hit with the pandemic. Although Mongolia stayed free from this deadly virus for almost 10 months, thanks to drastic, but effective, measures such as closing its borders, cancelling international flights, closing all educational facilities, and even banning the national holiday of Tsagaan Sar (Lunar New Year) and Naadam Festival, the latest wave has brought an explosion of cases. Daily case counts first crossed the 100 mark in early March; now they routinely top 1,000.
