Kh.Nyambaatar, Minister of Justice and Internal Affairs has been appointed as the leader of a cabinet working group to deal with the Rio Tinto Group‘s business at Oyu Tolgoi, one of the largest known copper and gold deposits in the world.
On 3 February, the cabinet working group held an online meeting with representatives from Rio Tinto. B.Bold, president of Copper International Operations of Rio Tinto Group and Kh.Amarjargal, Deputy Country Director at Rio Tinto Mongolia as well as S.Munkhsukh, former Country Director for Mongolia of Rio Tinto participated in the meeting.
Mongolian Prime Minister L.Oyun-Erdene announced that the government proposed to amend the Oyu Tolgoi Investment Agreement signed in 2009 and re-sign the Oyu Tolgoi Underground Mine Development and Financing Plan.
According to one source, the Mongolian Government has decided to maintain lawsuit demands filed with a New York Court in the USA; in this connection, King and Spalding – a notable law firm – has been requested to renew legal proceedings.
