The Mongolian Government has decided to extend the ‘second degree’ emergency situation until 1 December after failing to takefull control of local transmissions within five days.
Residents of Mongolia’s capital of Ulaanbaatar have been told to stay at home as part of nationwide lockdown measures. Police and military personnel have been deployed to ensure compliance.
Since the beginning of the crisis, Mongolia had managed to prevent any local transmission of the virus. This changed on 10 November when a truck driver tested positive for Covid-19 after leaving 21 days of mandatory isolation; this has been followed by several more cases.
