Early on Thursday (5 November), a 4.5 magnitude earthquake occurred just across the border in Russia. The epicenter was 100 km east of Khuder Soum in Selenge Province. Tremors from Russia were felt across the border in the neighboring Mongolian provinces of Selenge and Darkhan-Uul as well as in the and capital city of Ulaanbaatar.
According to the Mongolian Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics, the 3.5 magnitude aftershock was felt in Ulaanbaatar in 1-2 sec at 11.00 a.m. Residents complained about feeling trembling and dizziness.
Since January, 2020, more than 1000 earthquakes have been registered in Ulaanbaatar – mostly minor seismic events.
