MIAT will conduct direct flights to Seattle, Washington later in September for repatriating 850 Mongolians stranded in the USA. Previously, the Mongolian airline has conducted two direct flights to Seattle on 3 August and 21 June. Over 2100 Mongolians who have applied to return home will be repatriated by three transit flight from USA.
In June, MIAT, Mongolian Airlines conducted the first-ever direct flight to the United States in order to rescue some of its nationals stranded there and with a special delivery of personal protective equipment. On that occasion, the protective clothing and equipment worth USD 1 million was delivered on a charter flight on 21 June; it was later delivered to native Americans, who have been suffering from the pandemic. On its return, the MIAT chartered flight repatriated over 250 Mongolian nationals back from Seattle.
Separately, Mongolia will conduct four charter flights to Seoul for evacuating some 1000 its nationals. As of today (17 September), 10803 Mongolians stranded in foreign countries have applied to take charter flights; this is a decrease of 1000 people from three days ago. Most of the Mongolians who applied to return to home are currently in five countries; namely, South Korea where 5028 people following 2128 in USA, 896 in Kazakhstan, 795 in Turkey and 480 in Australia.
