Mr. Elbegdorj noted that Germany has greatly assisted Mongolia’s transformation into a democracy, and expressed his hope that the new ambassador would work to further strengthen the relations between the two countries. The president pointed out that the two countries are already partners in developing Mongolia’s mining sector and infrastructure.
He also noted that many Mongolians study in Germany, and many who have graduated from German institutions have returned to work in various professions in Mongolia. Mr. Elbegdorj proposed the establishment of a joint German-Mongolian university, and said he would discuss the idea with German Chancellor Angela Merkel when she visits Mongolia in October.
