The Mongolian Cabinet approved the decision of the National Emergency Commission to reopen the nation’s schools in September. To accommodate social distancing and safety guidance advice from Health Ministry, schools in Mongolia are planning to have children attend classes virtually and stagger their in-classroom time. Most will be attending school in-person three days a week. Therefore, one class with 40 students needs to be divided into two sections and one will begin lessons early in the morning and others will have to study later in the day.
However, the school reopening plan proposed by Prime Minister U.Khurelsukh will be a disaster for working families: parents will be forced to provide alternative child-care arrangements on the days when the children are not in school. Therefore, the Education Ministry is giving parents a choice as to whether their children should study in class for three days or by online a full week.
