Three Mongolian tourists drown in Kherlen River

Three local tourists have drowned in the Kherlen River in the Khentii Province of northern Mongolia. According to the National Emergency Management Agency, two men and a woman fell into river on 26 June around 7.00 p.m while travelling with group of 12 in Khentii.

Their bodies were retrieved 6 km from the spot where they fell into the water. NEMA officers found the 20-year-old woman’s corpse on 29 June, that of the 31-year-old man on 30 July and the 32-year-old on 1 July.

Recently, all Mongolia’s major rivers have swollen by 10-50 cm after heavy rains last week. There has been extensive flooding. Khentii has been badly hit.
