On Tuesday (28 April), the National Emergency Commission (NEC)  decided to extend the suspension of international passenger flights till the end of May. Deputy Prime Minister U.Enkhtuvshin commented: “Although local transmission has not been reported in Mongolia, the country remains at high risk due to the potential spread of COVID-19. Therefore, we have decided to extend the heightened state of readiness and restrictions for international passenger flights until 31 May”

All aircraft at Chinggis Khaan International Airport, which serves the capital Ulaanbaatar, have been grounded since 10 March. Meanwhile, Mongolia is continuing to evacuate its citizens from pandemic-hit countries. The country of three million is planned to send three more chartered flights on 30 April and 1-3 May to Seoul and Frankfurt.

As of Tuesday, Mongolia has registered 38 confirmed COVID-19 infections, including four foreigners; 10 of the 38 have recovered.
