Earlier today (16 April), Mongolia evacuated 55 of its nationals by a bus from Erenhot, which is just across the border in China through the Zamyn-Uud border crossings. The group, including a pregnant woman, seven children and an elderly person were quarantined in the Zamyn-Uud Soum of Dornogobi Province for 21 days of observation.
The Mongolian nationals were stuck in Inner Mongolia since the country closed its border with China earlier in February in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus. The group had applied to return home several times since 25 March. However, China’s Inner Mongolian Emergency Commission only gave Ulaanbaatar permission to evacuate them on 10 April.
