The Mongolian Government in 2012 identified the Saker Falcon as the national bird, making the country the 88th in the world that has a national bird. However, only 6,800 Saker Falcons currently live in Mongolia according to data from the country’s environmental protection department.

In order to help the national bird artificial nests are being build to make it easier for the falcon to find a place to lay its eggs. According to the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, a total of 5000 artificial nests have been establishe. It is anticipated that 2,500 young birds will be fledged annually.
