Spoons are known to have been used during the time of ancient Egypt, and the Shang dynasty as early as 4,000 years ago. We now know that ancient Mongolians used to make spoons out of bone at least 3,800 years ago. This has been proved from the findings discovered by a research team of the Archaeology Department of Ulaanbaatar State University.
Following on from earlier excavations done between 2002 and 2011, the research team has found various ancient artifacts. These include, a 7,500-year-old bone knife from the basin of the Eg River in Khutag-Undur Soum, in Bulgan Province, a 4,500-year-old pot from the basin of Bulgan River in Bulgan Soum, Khovd Province, and the, now famous 3,800-year-old bone spoons from the basins of Bulgan and Eg, along with other items.
