The highly-anticipated friendly match between the national football teams of Cambodia and Mongolia ended in a draw.
The Smart International Friendly at the National Stadium on November 14 ended with both teams having a goal each after 90 minutes.
More than 22,000 football fans, mostly Cambodians, descended at the venue to watch the game.
Both teams missed scoring opportunities in the early going before Mongolian midfielder A.Narmandakh slotted in a goal in the 21st minute to put his country up, 1-0. Cambodia forward Keo Sokpheng also appeared to have scored in the 11th minute before his goal was disallowed by for being offside. Two minutes later, another one of Sokpheng’s many attempts at the goal went wide.
The international football organisation FIFA ranks Cambodia 172nd, while Mongolia is at 186th place globally.
The game was a tune-up for both teams who are set to face separate opponents in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
The Mongolian team, which is in Group F, will face their counterparts from Myanmar on Nov 19, while the Cambodian team will battle Hong Kong that same day in Group C.
