The number of tourists coming to Mongolia grew by 14.8 percent year-on-year in the first half of 2019. A total of 217,000 foreign tourists visited the country in the period from January to June, with China being the leading source of visitors, according to the country’s National Statistics Office (NSO).
Tourism sector revenue reached USD 284.1 million; this is up over 10 percent compared to the same period last year.
Mongolia has set itself a goal of attracting one million foreign tourists and earning one billion U.S. dollars from tourism in 2020.
The country received a total of 529,370 foreign tourists in 2018, up some 11 percent on the previous year.
