On Wednesday (28 August), an extended meeting was held over the construction of the highway between Ulaanbaatar and Darkhan. The meeting was attended by the officials responsible for project implementation, the general contractors, the subcontractor and other stake-holders.
At the meeting, MP B.Enkh-Amgalan noted that the road between Ulaanbaatar and Darkhan is the main transit route connecting the capital with the north. The construction of the highway is now being scrutinized by the Mongolian Government and the office of the Prime Minister. Mr B.Enkh-Amgalan warned the contractors to meet the agreed deadline to open the highway in November. If this does not happen the contractors, especially, China State Construction LLC will be fined if the company could not complete Sections 2 and 4.
Other companies which are constructing Sections 1, 3 and 5 explained that they have been working round the clock to meet the deadline. However, the recent rain has caused an 18-day delay.
