Historical Mongolian ‘2000’ movie to premiere in Seoul

‘The 2000’, a movie about historical event of Mongolia’s uprising against Qing (Manchu) dynasty will be screened in Seoul, the capital of South Korea on 25-31 May. The movie is based on a true historical event of the bloody uprising by 2000 soldiers from the Dzungar city of Uliastai against the Manchu in 1883.  The movie was premiered in Mongolia on 1 March.

‘The 2000’ by UB Film was produced by state-honoured artist P.Batsaikhan and directed by B.Otgonzorig. Well-known Mongolian actors such as P.Tserendagva, D.Tumurtogtokh, D.Gursed, Ts.Tserenbold, S.Bold-Erdene and D.Gantumur starred in the movie.

The Dzungar Khanate was the last great nomadic empire in Asia. The Kalmyks, who live today in the south of Russia, come from the last nomadic migration from the khanate, fleeing Chinese oppression. Some scholars estimate that about 80% of the Dzungar population, or around 500,000 to 800,000 people, were killed by a combination of warfare and disease during or after the Qing conquest in 1755–1757. After 200 years of suffering under Qing dynasty, Mongolia declared its independence from the Manchu-led dynasty during the 1911 revolution.
