During today’s session, the Mongolian Cabinet discussed the establishment of a Chinggis Khaan Heritage and Culture Institute. The new centre is designed to promote the founder of the Mongolian state as  ‘Man of the Millennium’ and develop an independent faculty for Chinggis Khaan’s study. ‘Chinggisology’ looks set to become a new discipline!

In recent years, many foreign countries have tried to claim ownership of Chinggis Khaan and to distort the proof of history of 13th century and later. For example, US secondary schools teach that Khubilai Khaan, the grandson of Chinngis was a Chinese Emperor. The Yuan Dynasty which he founded was, in fact, a Mongolian dynasty. At the other extreme, some question that Chinggis even lived. In Russia, some people, including ‘youtube’ historians deny that the Mongol Empire ever existed, forgetting that the name of Moscow’s most famous street, the Arbat, comes from the Mongolian word for ‘ten’.

Last year, Mongolian government approved a project to construct 250 km road en route from Chinggis City, the administrative centre of Khentii Province to Norovlin-Dadal Soum, which was where Temujin, who was to grow up to become Chinngis Khaan was born.  In addition, a Great Mongolian Empire Complex is to be constructed in Binder Soum and another – the Boorchi-Friendship Palace – in the Batnorov Soum.
