American women’s fashion magazine Harper’s Bazaar names Mongolia as travel destination for an adventurous and long weekend 2019. “From the beautiful desert steppe and incredible sand dunes in the Gobi in the south, to the mountainous regions in the west, to the lakes in the north, Mongolia will only beat your expectations. Make sure you step foot onto the largest desert in the world, the Gobi Desert, and explore the dinosaur remains petrified in the Flaming Cliffs, otherwise known as the Bayanzag. Besides the pristine nature, Mongolia has something even better to offer: Its nomadic culture. Travelling in Mongolia will give you the opportunity to stay with nomadic families in their Ger or Yurt (a traditional round tent covered in thick felt) to create an experience you will never forget. While you are out in the wild, don’t forget to stop and enjoy views of the famous Prezwalski horse, snow leopards, yaks and gazelles.”
Harper’s Bazaar has, to its credit, tried to cram some of the very best things Mongolia has to offer into one paragraph – but to manage to do all of this in one weekend, even a long one? Mongolia is truly vast; the magazine could have noted ‘twice the size of Texas’ but with hardly any of the infrastructure! That said, even if you managed to achieve one or two of the things listed – it would be a long weekend never to forget,
