The Mongolian State Great Khural (parliament) approved a bill on 1 February to open a General Consulate in Shanghai. This was presented by the cabinet on 28 December, 2018.
Opening the General Consulate in Shanghai will enable Mongolians living and studying in Shanghai, Fujian, Zhejiang, Anhui and Jiangsu provinces to receive consular services. It will also create a possibility to issue Mongolian visas to the citizens of China and other countries to travel to Mongolia on business or as tourists.
Nearly, 700 Mongolian students study in Shanghai, which is also an important economic, trade, banking and tourism centre. It is also the location of the Chinese stock market.
