Mongolia will hold a major training on disaster preparedness and response in its capital city on 24-26 April
According to National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ulaanbaatar has not held a citywide training since 1990.
The scenario of training will be a strong earthquake hitting the capital city. This is will be a serious civil activity and all residents and organizations of Ulaanbaatar must participate. During the training, the Mongolian capital will close its roads off to all vehicles.
The training includes emergency evacuation drills, workshops on how to protect oneself and one’s family and how to send accurate information to the public during a natural disaster.
In 2015 a small earthquake was felt in Ulaanbaatar; there has been a build up of seismic activity in the immediate region. There is serious concern as to how the residential districts of the city would cope if the city were to be hit by a major quake.
