According to data from the National Trauma Research Centre, a total of 52 children have been injured from falling off or being thrown from horses since January 1st, 2019. Two of them were child jockeys and others were animal herders. Most reported injuries were skull and brain injuries.
Last year, the Mongolian Cabinet banned horse races in Winter in order to ensure the health and safety of child jockeys. Also, children below the age of 12 are prohibited from taking part in all horse races held in the first three days of the first month of Spring in the lunar calendar.
