British citizen Rachel Forbes will run the 100-mile Mongol challenge. Rachel, who is a retired major from the British Army, will spend eight days travelling to Lake Khuvsgul, which is in the North West of Mongolia.
The challenge, which will be raising cash for “Walking with the Wounded” will take place in a remote part of Mongolia, where temperatures can drop to -45C. This charity helps vulnerable veterans regain their independence and reintegrate into society after leaving the military. Rachel has raised over £2,000 for the charity already.
Rachel, who is 45 and served served 19 years in the army, was inspired to take on a challenge that would push her to the limit after watching videos of fellow female adventurers.
Rachel has been training since November waking up at 5.30am to go running. However, will not be able to prepare herself for the extreme cold until she lands in Mongolia in March.
