Mongolian President Ts. Elbegdorj on Tuesday met with Finnish journalists accompanying Finnish President Tarja Halonen on her visit to Mongolia. The president answered questions from representatives of the Finnish national television network YLE, the magazine Suomen Kuvalehti, and the newspapers Helsingin Sanomat and Ilta-Sanomat.

Ms. Halonen’s state visit is the first official visit to Mongolia from the elected leader of a Scandinavian country, and it is attracting much attention. Norwegian and CNN reporters have also interviewed President Elbegdorj about the visit. The journalists asked the president about some issues discussed during his visit to Finland last year, particularly cooperation on reindeer multiplication. There were also questions about mining, investment, human rights, and environmental policy.
