Earlier today (10 January), the second demonstration was held at Sukhbaabar square, in the centre of Ulaanbaatar demanding the resignation of Mongolian Parliamentary Speaker M.Enkhbold. Police and security service officers were deployed for ensuring safety and preventing violence. Steel barriers were also erected around the square.
Previously, on 27 December, a crowd of almost 1000 people demonstrated demanding that Speaker M. Enkhbold steps down. The event was organized by the ‘Mongolians Unite’ movement and was attended by some members of parliament. It has been announced that the demonstration will be held every Thursdays until Speaker M.Enkhbold steps down.
The ‘Mongolians Unite, movement MPs is led by T.Ayursaikhan, L.Bold and J.Batzandan and has a clear agenda: to fight against ‘MANAN (Fog) Power’. Mongolians consider MANAN as a broad pervasive phenomenon including large elements of both the ruling Mongolian People’s Party and the opposing Democratic Party. However, the fog is thickest around the speaker, whose name has been connected with real corruption, such as the alleged buying and selling of government positions.
