Mongolia to construct yak museum

Mongolia has the second highest yak population in the world after China. For centuries, the yak has held a great value for nomadic breeders. It has many uses and is necessary for the good development of a farm. Known in Mongolian as the ‘sarlag’, the yak can carry equipment on its back or pull a cart. Its wood is used for doing clothes, and, as any animal, its meat and milk are eaten.

Mongolia is now planning to construct a international research centre for nomadic lifestyles and a yak museum in Arkhangai province. The Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sports has drafted MNT 5.6 billion for the project.

Furthermore, a complex dedicated to the culture, history, of world nomads and tourism will be established in the Undurkhaan and Erdenemandal Soums(rural districts) of Arkhangai Province.
