Fossil remains of Sauropod dinosaurs, the largest animals to have ever lived on land, have been found in the Mongolian Gobi desert for first time. Experts from the Institute of Paleontology and Geology of Mongolian Academy of Science, this year, discovered fossil rachides, neck and ribs that belong to sauropod dinosaurs in South Gobi. A diverse group of sauropod dinosaurs roamed Earth between 90 and 70 million years ago. According to the paleontologists, five species of sauropod dinosaurs lived in Mongolia. Previously, a group of paleontologists discovered the first sauropod footprint ever found in 2016. The footprint, which measured 42 inches long and 30 inches wide, was found in the Gobi Desert in Mongolia.
Sauropod dinosaurs had long tails and are distinguished for their long neck that could reach up to 50 feet long or six times longer than that of the giraffe. These creatures could weigh up to 90 tons and stand more than 60 feet tall when fully grown.
