On sidelines of the the Eastern Economic Forum, Mongolian President Kh.Battulga held a meeting with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping on Wednesday. At the meeting, the Mongolian President noted that he was very happy to be able to meet with Mr. Xi Jinping again after they last met in June in Qindao.
President Kh.Battulga said that Mongolia is willing to cooperate with China on mega projects such as establishing the north-east Asian energy “super grid”, building gas pipelines from Russia to China via Mongolia, implementing projects related to the economic corridor between Mongolia, China and Russia. Furthermore, he proposed to Xi Jinping, exporting value added agricultural products to China as well as to establish a bi-lateral working group for constructing the highway connecting Zamyn-Ude-Altanbulag, which are the two border crossings and special economic zones in the south and the north of Mongolia respectively.
In return, Chinese President Xi Jinping wants to update the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries, increasing the bilateral trade turnover to USD 10 billion by 2020. The two sides discussed building a new railway, developing manufacturing industry as well as regional peace and security issues. Mr. Xi Jinping has invited Mongolian President to visit China in 2019 to participate in the second summit of the Belt and Road initiative.
