From July 10-13, Mongolia celebrated the annual Naadam Festival. The festivities consist of a number of national ceremonies, concerts, and, most notably, sporting competitions—including those for the “three manly sports” of wrestling, horseracing, and archery. It is a time when Mongolians young and old relax and all companies and firms close for a few days. However, officers from Mongolian National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) were kept very busy during the festival. Over 9700 officers with 4770 fire-engines were on high alert during the festival from 10 July 09.00 a.m. to 16 July 09.00 a.m. to ensure the safety of the public.
During the Naadam holidays, NEMA received calls to extinguish 23 fires and for 35 other emergency situations. In total the NEMA officers rescued 15 people.
