An exhibition entitled ‘Mongolian traditional idols and belief’ has opened at the National Museum of Mongolia in Ulaanbaatar.

Banned for 70 years under communist rule, the ancient practice of shamanism has been protected by Mongolia’s constitution since 1992. Now, it is believed there are more than 10,000 shamans in Mongolia. Headdresses and mouth harps are intended as tools to allow spirits to use the bodies and voices of shamans

The exhibition will last until 25 August.
