Authorities in the Bayanzurkh district of Ulaanbaatar have closed a kindergarten for poor and disabled children in the 23rd khoroo. The kindergarten was opened in 2007 with half the funding coming from international organizations. One of the kindergarten’s founders, L. Namsraijav, says the four-year contract to operate the kindergarten has expired. District authorities who closed the kindergarten say a new one will be built to replace it. They say construction work will begin in October, although there are not yet any signs of work at the site. Parents had asked the district to keep the kindergarten until the new one is ready, but authorities refused. As a result of the closing, more than 40 children are unable to attend kindergarten.
