A new 15Mw solar power plant has begun operation in Zamyn Uud, in Dornogobi Province. Prime Minister of Mongolia U.Khurelsukh, participated in the opening ceremony of the new eco-friendly facility in which solar panels cover 40 hectares of land.
Mongolian Erchim Teeg LLC in cooperation with Japanese corporations Sharp and Shigumetsu Shoji constructed the plant which has a capacity of producing 32 million kilowatts of energy.
The new solar plant will help prevent the release of 834 thousand tonnes of greenhouse gases from 27 thousand tonnes of coal burned, and could also help reduce water usage by 202 thousand tonnes. Furthermore, the solar plant will contribute towards the Mongolian Government’s goals for providing 30 percent of energy needs from renewable resources by 2030.
The plant created 20 new jobs and is expected to contribute MNT 37.11 billion to State Budget over the next 25 years.
