A Mongolian herder has found a young male Mazaalai or Gobi bear, one of the most endangered species on the planet – 300 km from its home. The herder discovered the animal in Bayanbuural Bagh in the Gobi-Altai Province on 7 June. According to environmental experts, the Mazaalai left his home in the South Gobi Province, in search of food as the region is experiencing severe drought this summer. The young Mazaalai aged three to four years-old travelled 300 km from Southern Gobi .
A working group comprising of officials from the Ministry of Environment and Tourism and the Mazaalai Foundation returned the Mazaalai back to the Great Gobi ‘A’ strictly protected area – where, hopefully, there will be food available for him.
